Funny, heartfelt and emotionally charged, this new play explores love, friendship and the relationships that shape who we become.
Kay and Jay have been inseparable since childhood. As romance, heartbreak and the expectations of other people begin to pull them in different directions, they are forced to confront a difficult question: can a man and a woman ever truly be “just friends”?
Blending sharp humour, party culture, live DJ sets and contemporary Black British culture, In Her Eyes I’m a Good Man is a coming-of-age story about loyalty, healing and finding the courage to choose the people who truly see you.
Written and directed by Mo Korede, the production continues their exploration of Black British identity, friendship and family through emotionally rich storytelling and bold theatrical language.
The play is produced by Imagiphoria Productions, a theatre company founded in 2015 to place Black British stories and experiences from across the African diaspora at the centre of the stage. It marks the company’s tenth original production following a decade of work presented at venues across London.
The cast includes Seyi Falas as Jay and Victoria Nwaesei as Kay, with Mo Bangura and Zainab Lawal as members of the ensemble.
Music forms an important part of the production. Afro-Electronic DJ and curator RUSH brings influences from Afro House, Afro-Tech, Amapiano and the wider Southern African underground scene, while Bridget Ekelectic adds a lively mixture of Afrobeats, Alte and Afrohouse.
The production forms part of Theatre Peckham’s Young, Gifted & Black 2026 season, an annual celebration of young Black British talent, stories and creativity. This year’s programme also marks Theatre Peckham’s 40th anniversary.
Age guidance: 14+
The production contains strong language, emotionally abusive and controlling relationships, discussions of infidelity, physical altercations, emotional distress, anxiety and panic, alcohol consumption, smoking and references to racism and misogyny.
