Miss Diagnosis Lunch and Learn – Black Womens healthcare discussion

Saturday 14th October

Miss Diagnosis – A panel discussion about Black Womens health and incorrect diagnosis from maternal care to breast cancer.

Back in 2018 The Zebra Partnership was commissioned by Disability Stockport to celebrate their 40th anniversary. We created ten events across five days in one venue and delivered the anniversary festival July 2019.

One of the events was #MissDiagnosis a great event with invited chair and panel.

As part of the 🌟Ubuntu Festival of Events for Black History Month, The Zebra Partnership has collaborated with Stockport Race Equality Partnership to deliver a weekend of events in #Stockport

On Saturday 14 October Carol Ann Whitehead will be bringing back #MissDiagnosis and hosting a special #BHM ‘Miss Diagnosis Lunch and Learn’ a panel discussion about Black Womens health and incorrect diagnosis from maternal care to breast cancer.

The most common areas of misdiagnosis in women are heart attacks, fibromyalgia strokes, endometriosis, lupus and MS.

Women cite three main reasons why they feel they are misdiagnosed:

  • There is not enough clinical research or subsequent treatment or advice on gender difference in health conditions,
  • they feel health professionals don’t listen to them or take them seriously
  • or else they think they are complaining about insignificant conditions.

Reports and data back up the claims with the BMJ taking it very seriously – we hear from community members and experts with experience.

After the discussion there will be a chance to network with Afrobeats and enjoy some African Caribbean food. All are welcome.
