Taste of Shanty Town

Sat 6 Oct 18 - Tue 30 Oct 18

Taste of Shanty Town will transport you into the world of the shanties of Luanda (Angola). You will be immersed into the atmosphere and culture highlighting the creativity within these spontaneous settlements. From these conditions comes playful, resourceful and functional design. Expect colour, vibrancy, up-cycling… a space where anything goes.

‘A shanty town or squatter area is a settlement of improvised housing which is known as shanties or shacks, made of plywood, corrugated metal, sheets of plastic, and cardboard boxes. Such settlements are usually found on the periphery of cities. Sometimes called a squatter, or spontaneous settlement, a typical shanty town often lacks adequate infrastructure.’
