About this Event
Experience a unique Sunday afternoon as you step into India. Tickets include a 3-course lunch at the beautifully old-fashioned India Club Restaurant, followed by the film screening of “Monsoon Wedding.”
ABOUT MONSOON WEDDING:
An energetic blend of Hollywood and Bollywood styles, the film is a colourful celebration of modern-day India, family, life, and love.
In Delhi, preparations are under way for a lavish, nonstop, four-day celebration for the arranged marriage of Aditi and Hemant. Aditi is the only daughter of an upper-middle-class family in India. She is about to meet her groom, an Indian- American from Texas. It should be the perfect wedding, but dark secrets lurk under the surface.
Directed by the legendary Mira Nair, “Monsoon Wedding” won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival in 2001, and was named the best romance of the 21st century (IndieWire).
The film is in Hindi with English subtitles.
The lunch and film screening will be at the charmingly eccentric India Club restaurant and lounge. The India Club has remained much the same since its opening over 50 years ago.
Hidden up a flight of stairs, enter a timewarp with portraits of the Independence era on the walls, bottle-green leather chairs, red lino flooring and laminate tabletops. It is a British curry house of the first generation.
Described as “the London of black-and-white movies…India Club is part of London’s restaurant history.” – Bloomberg
