A commemorative service celebrating the life and legacy of pioneering nurse Mary Seacole will take place in London on Saturday 10 May 2025, bringing together community members, historians, and supporters to honour her enduring contribution to healthcare and humanitarian work.

The day’s events will begin at 11:00am with a procession to Mary Seacole’s graveside at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Kensal Green. Attendees will gather on Harrow Road (NW10 5NU) before proceeding together in tribute to one of Britain’s most respected nursing figures.

At 12:00 midday, the annual commemorative service will continue at St Mark’s Church, located at the corner of Bathurst Gardens and All Souls Avenue in Kensal Rise (NW10 5HX). The service will reflect on Seacole’s remarkable life, including her work during the Crimean War, where she provided vital care to wounded soldiers despite facing racial prejudice and institutional barriers.

Following the service, guests will be invited to attend a communal lunch, offering an opportunity for reflection, connection, and continued celebration of Seacole’s legacy.

Mary Seacole, born in Jamaica in 1805, is widely recognised for her courage, compassion, and determination. In recent years, her story has gained renewed prominence as part of wider efforts to acknowledge the contributions of Black figures in British history.

Organisers encourage those interested in attending to secure tickets in advance. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.
