A rare screening of the ‘Brent Black Music History Project’ DVD, which covers artists, labels, DJs, broadcasters, retailers telling the story of north London borough of Brent’s unique black music history*. Followed by Q&A with project leader and the film’s director Kwaku.

*London’s most culturally diverse borough, Brent had one of the world’s largest Reggae record distributors – Jetstar, started there. Famous reggae singers Janet Kay and Carol Thompson lived in Brent. Ditto reggae DJs Daddy Ernie and Robbo Ranx. Sonny Roberts set up the first black-owned recording studio and label Planetone in Brent in 1962. Aswad, the famous reggae band originate from Brent. Loads of pirate/community radio stations, record lanels and shops, etc….
