Reel Histories is a bold and compelling film programme curated for Black History Month 2025. It celebrates the rich cinematic legacies of Black communities across the globe, offering audiences a curated journey through films that challenge, inspire and educate.

Through a diverse selection of narrative, documentary and short films, Reel Histories explores the power of storytelling as a form of resistance and cultural memory.

The programme shines a light on stories that are often marginalised or overlooked. From intimate portrayals of the Windrush generation to revolutionary movements in the Caribbean, South America and the UK, each film presents a unique lens on Black experiences. These stories speak to themes of identity, struggle, resilience and visibility, encouraging reflection on both historical and contemporary issues.

Among the highlights of the programme is the feature documentary The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution. This is the first full-length film to explore the history and legacy of the Black Panther Party in depth. Drawing from rare archival footage and powerful interviews, the documentary presents perspectives from former members of the party, law enforcement officials, journalists, supporters, critics and FBI informants. It offers a nuanced look at the organisation’s impact on American society and the lessons that continue to resonate today.

Reel Histories invites audiences not only to watch films but to participate in conversations and community. The programme aims to foster dialogue and connection, creating space for shared reflection and cultural celebration. In addition to screenings, there will be in-conversation events and a special Black History Month official launch to mark the occasion.

Tickets are priced at £10, with a concession rate of £8, plus a £1 booking fee. For those looking to immerse themselves fully in the experience, the Reel Histories Pass is available for £45. This includes access to all screenings, in-conversation events, the official launch and a complimentary drink at each screening.
