1 October – 19 December 2025

From Tuesday 1 October to Friday 19 December, the Corner Gallery hosts a major new exhibition by artist Igor Tavares. Presented by the Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage, this season’s showcase invites audiences to journey through memory, heritage and the visual language of resistance.

Drawing upon his Guinea-Bissau heritage, Tavares creates work that explores the intersections of identity, history and cultural survival. His canvases follow in the footsteps of trailblazers such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and David Hammons, transforming the gallery into a space not only of aesthetic expression but also of interrogation. Through bold colour, layered texture and symbolism, Tavares addresses the enduring legacies of colonialism and the ways in which art can preserve memory while opening new dialogues.

The exhibition runs Monday to Friday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm, and is free to visit. Alongside the opportunity to experience Tavares’ work up close, visitors will also have the chance to purchase pieces throughout the exhibition period.

This season’s exhibition forms part of the Black History Month 2025 programme, connecting with related events including the Windrush Creative Legacy Project, the Black History Month 2025 Launch, and BHM25: Reel Histories.
