“Are you alright?” is one of the most familiar greetings in the North East—something often said in passing but rarely answered with complete honesty. This exhibition treats it as a real question.
Alchemy of Minds, a collective of Black artists working across the region and beyond, responds through painting, drawing, digital art, mixed media and installation. The work occupies the space between how things appear and how they truly are.
Some of the exhibition turns inward, exploring the body, faith and the gradual process of healing. Other works look outward at the social pressures and experiences that shape a person’s life.
Rather than presenting Black identity solely through achievement or hardship, Are You Alright? creates space for care, vulnerability and emotional honesty. It asks what keeps us going when the answer to that familiar question is anything but simple.
