A Service to Celebrate Black History Month

Sunday 25th October 2026

The Diocese of York invites people from across Hull and the surrounding area to come together for a special service celebrating Black History Month.

Held in the historic surroundings of Hull Minster, this Service of the Word will provide an opportunity to celebrate the contribution Black people and communities have made to Britain’s past, present and future.

The service will include hymns, readings and moments of reflection, bringing people together through worship while recognising the importance of racial justice within the Church and wider society.

Those attending will also be invited to consider the part they can play in challenging racism, supporting equality and helping to build communities in which everyone is respected and valued.

The service reflects the Black History Month 2026 theme, Honouring Our Communities, which recognises the people and communities whose service, leadership, creativity and commitment continue to shape life across Britain.

It will be a welcoming occasion for people of every background, including regular churchgoers, members of other faith communities and those who do not normally attend church.

There will also be an opportunity to make a personal commitment to the continuing work of racial justice.

Admission is free and no booking information has been provided. Everyone is welcome to attend.
