Mahalia is one of British R&B’s most successful contemporary faces.
This is an exciting time for Mahalia, with a legion of 3.3M monthly Spotify listeners, an opener performance for Adele at Hyde Park this summer and a stellar prime-time Commonwealth Games closing ceremony set. She’s also in the final stages of completing her sophomore album, aptly titled IRL, in which she’s doubling down on the vulnerability, internal reflection and desire to feel demonstrated in her previous projects.
‘I feel like there’s even more personality on IRL,’ she says. ‘This is a real reflection of the journeys I’ve had, what actually happened and a celebration of everyone who got me there.
There are names and family members I mention because it all helped in shaping who I am. I’m so proud of this project, and so proud of how much I challenged myself to just let those stories out.’
