Legendary Philadelphia soul group The Stylistics come to Cardiff for an evening celebrating the songs, harmonies and romantic sound that made them one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1970s.
The group recorded a remarkable sequence of ten consecutive top-ten hits during the early years of its career, creating a catalogue that remains central to the history of Philadelphia soul.
The Cardiff concert will include favourites such as You Make Me Feel Brand New, You Are Everything, Betcha by Golly, Wow, I’m Stone in Love with You, Can’t Give You Anything (But My Love), Let’s Put It All Together, Sing Baby Sing and Rockin’ Roll Baby.
Known for elegant vocal arrangements, close harmonies and a distinctive romantic style, The Stylistics became one of Philadelphia’s best-selling groups and built a particularly loyal following in the United Kingdom.
Their music helped define an era in which soul orchestration, vocal precision and emotionally direct songwriting reached audiences around the world.
This Black History Month concert offers audiences an opportunity to experience those classic songs in one of Cardiff’s most historic theatres.
The appearance also provides a connection between contemporary Black History Month programming and an important chapter in African American popular music.
With support appearing earlier in the evening, the concert promises a full programme of soul music and memories, concluding Cardiff’s Black History Month events on Saturday 31st October.
Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
