Imagine Festival: An Afternoon with RAMZEE

Wednesday 18 February 2026

As a highlight of the 2026 Imagine Children’s Festival, the Southbank Centre welcomes the award-winning comic creator and illustrator RAMZEE for an unmissable afternoon of creativity. Best known for his hit series Mega Robo Bros and his contributions to Marvel and 2000 AD, RAMZEE has become a defining voice in British children’s literature, celebrated for creating heroes that truly reflect the diversity of modern London. His work is praised not just for its action-packed visuals, but for how it weaves personal narratives of belonging and identity into accessible, fun stories.

This interactive session goes far beyond a standard book reading. Designed for young aspiring artists and storytellers, the event invites the audience into RAMZEE’s studio process. He will open up about his own journey—from his experiences as a refugee arriving in the UK to becoming a celebrated artist—and explain how these real-life memories shaped the “outsider” perspective of his most famous characters. Children will learn that their own unique backgrounds are their greatest superpowers when it comes to creating art.

The second half of the event features a live “draw-along” masterclass. RAMZEE will guide the audience through the fundamentals of character design, teaching them how to convey emotion and personality through simple lines and shapes. The session culminates in a collaborative segment where the entire room helps invent a brand-new superhero live on stage, voting on their powers, costume, and origin story. It is a high-energy celebration of visual literacy that empowers young people to pick up a pen and tell their own stories.
