The Sierra Leone Arts & Culture Festival 2018

Saturday 20th October 2018, 12pm.

After a successful inaugural year, the Sierra Leone Arts & Culture Festival #SLACfest returns to a bigger and bolder venue bringing with it a day of celebration, showcasing young Sierra Leoneans both from home and in the diaspora.



Featuring works from Freetown to Abidjan, from Makeni to Sydney, from Kono to Croydon, all via Economy Class from Lungi Airport taking different pit stops around the world.



If you’ve ever been curious about this jewel of a state in West Africa or are interested in the arts of young people who’re breaking all the barriers embarking on paths their parents might’ve frowned upon, you’ll love the Sierra Leone Arts & Culture Festival.


We will kick-off the day with photo exhibitions and illustrations from young Sierra Leoneans across the globe as we welcome guests to a tasty selection of Sierra Leone snacks and beverages.

Activities in the day include a brief history of Sierra Leone, its people and links to other countries across the world. We’ll also introduce guests to some of the many historical figures that have helped shaped the nation.

There will be a brief introduction to some of our many languages and an advanced optional breakaway ‘Krio Club’, a 45-minute tuition into the essentials of reading, writing and speaking standardised Krio.

Other activities include a poetry film showcase by one of our artists back home, film interviews with prominent young people changing the perception

of Sierra Leone both on and off social media, a 10-minute preview of a film from one of our multitalented young ladies, and a topical discussion with some our young people.



Guests will also get a chance to meet some of our young entrepreneurs, indulge in their products, and be in with a chance of winning some merchandise in our raffle. All proceeds from our raffle will be donated to our supported charity this year, Project Pikin, a charity invested in the empowerment of children through healthcare, education, and counselling, and also the provision of safe homes.



#SLACfest is of-course not complete without live performances… this year, you’re in for a treat with live spoken word poetry, acoustic music, dance and possibly, quite possibly, a theatre production.
