Celebrate Black History Month with an afternoon of reggae, hip-hop, live vinyl, dancing, creative activities and good vibes in the heart of Leeds.
Hosted by Nattylyn Maddix-Butler, also known as DJ Natty Bongo Congo I, this special Black History Month edition of Back a Yard brings together music, culture and community.
The event will feature a live vinyl selection of reggae and hip-hop-inspired music, with DJ Natty Bongo Congo I joined by talented guest selectors.
Visitors are welcome to dance, meet friends, enjoy food or simply relax and listen to the music before the Monday blues arrive.
There will also be creative activities for visitors, along with opportunities to play dominoes and chess in the welcoming surroundings of the Howard Assembly Room Bar.
The event is suitable for families and aims to provide an accessible and dementia-friendly environment. There is no dress code—come comfortably dressed and ready for good vibes.
Food will be available from Yuzu, the venue’s East Asian-inspired street-food restaurant. Table reservations are recommended for anyone planning to eat between 2.30pm and 6pm.
During the school holidays, children can receive a free children’s meal with every full adult meal purchased. Terms and conditions apply.
The bar serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments, herbal teas, coffee and a selection of snacks.
The Howard Assembly Room is next to Leeds Grand Theatre, close to Upper Briggate in central Leeds.
The venue is accessible and operates on a cashless basis, so visitors should bring a debit or credit card.
Entry to the event is free, but advance booking is recommended to help the organisers manage numbers.
