About Community Black Achievers Wings Award

The first Black Achievers Wings Award ceremony was held in 1992 and since then it has been held bi-annually over the last 10 years. The reasoning behind the Awards was due to the negative images that were attributed to the Chapeltown, Harehills and Little London areas. During that time the media tended to focus primarily on crime, drugs and high unemployment. The intension of the awards is to bring about the positive aspects of both communities and at the same time dispelling the myths that the majority of our young people were underachieving.

The Awards demonstrate that there are young people within our communities that are achieving and the award is intended as an incentive in reaching their future goals.
