Black History Month: How To Deal With Micro-Aggressions

Thursday 28 October 2021

This talk led by Dr Tolulope Eboka whose research focuses on criminalisation, marginalisation, culture, gender, race & social justice

As part of De Montfort Universities Black History Month Programme:

DMU is proud to be working towards becoming an anti-racist university. In Black History Month we will launch our anti-racism lectures, which will discuss topics such as, ‘what is anti-racism work?’, ‘intersectionality’ and ‘decolonising the curriculum’. These talks will enable students and staff to learn, ask questions and be part of DMU’s changing culture.

The first lecture of the series will be led by DMU lecturer, Dr Tolulope Eboka whose research focuses on criminalisation, marginalisation, culture, gender, race and social justice. She has worked on questions of Black History Month, cultural violence, structural racism, higher education policy and practice, particularly in terms of racialised inequalities. Dr Eboka is currently working on questions of Anti-Asian Racism and Violence during the pandemic in the UK. She is a member of the British Society of Criminology and a Senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Following Dr Eboka’s lecture, there will be a panel discussion about the topic with other members of staff at DMU.

The anti-racism series will partner with Decolonising DMU, the B.A.M.E Staff Network and LLS, with lectures running throughout the academic year
