Let’s talk Caring for Hair

Let’s take the guessing game away and come and hear from world leading dermatologists, Professor Dlova and Dr Osei-Tutu who will share their wealth of knowledge around healthy hair care practices, and also give you tips and tricks to help you maintain and take care of your hair.

 

We aim to advance the conversations on Afro hair by connecting our audience with an international network of speakers including leading scientists and dermatologists from South Africa and the US .

The Speakers

Professor Ncoza Dlova, is an internationally acclaimed dermatologist, with a PhD focusing on ethnic skin and hair. She is the Dean of the School of Clinical Medicine and Head of Dermatology Dept University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban , South Africa. She is a well published dermatologist with more than 85 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, and an NRF rated researcher with more than 15 chapters in international dermatology textbooks and two dermatology books which depict and are relevant to South Africans and Black Skin. She has been invited as guest speaker in more than 30 countries.

Dr. Achiamah Osei-Tutu, MD, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in hair restoration, aesthetic, medical, and surgical skincare. She is well experienced in all aspects of dermatology, and has had extensive additional training in hair loss disorders and hair restoration. She also has a special interest in skin of color and the specific issues that affect melanin-rich skin. She has authored/coauthored a number of academic publications. She is an associate member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons.

The hosts

Dr Emma Amoafo-Mensah is an alumnus of the prestigious Imperial College London, where she graduated with distinctions in 2015. She is currently working as a dermatology registrar in South London. Dr Emma is also the co-founder of the House of Medics, where she supports a community of healthcare professionals and provides mentorship to students. Alongside this, she is the Health Editor of WOTC (Women of the City) Magazine, where she educates readers and answers their questions every month in the “Ask Dr Emma” feature.

The event will also be co-hosted by author and Certified Trichologist, Lorna Jones. She obtained a Science degree before studying to become a Trichologist and undertook her clinical training in various parts of the world including Australia, South Africa, Washington and the UK. Lorna qualified from the prestigious International Association of Trichologists. She is also the Group leader of the UK CCCA Support group run by the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation (CARF) who are based in the US.
