One of London’s most anticipated African cultural events is set to return to East London this spring, as Pop Up Africa brings its flagship shopping and cultural experience back to Spitalfields Market on Monday 25 May 2026.

Now in its 13th year, the free annual event has become a major fixture in London’s cultural calendar, attracting thousands of visitors each year and showcasing the creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of African and diaspora communities.

Running from 11am to 5pm, the event will transform the iconic E1 market into a lively celebration of African-inspired fashion, beauty, music, food, art and community, with more than 50 independent brands and creatives taking part.

Founded in 2013, Pop Up Africa has built an international reputation for creating immersive cultural experiences that champion African and diaspora talent. Through markets, exhibitions, food events and creative activations, the organisation has helped platform hundreds of independent businesses and artists across the globe.

This year’s Spitalfields edition will feature traders from across the African diaspora, including brands connected to Ghana, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Visitors can expect fashion labels, jewellery designers, wellness brands, homeware creators and independent publishers all under one roof.

Among the featured names are Kigali-based fashion label House of Tayo, Lagos-inspired brand Seundele, and a range of independent creatives showcasing contemporary African design and craftsmanship.

Live entertainment will also form a central part of the day’s programme. A special Afro-string performance will be delivered by a Chineke! Orchestra musician and Afrobeats artist who has appeared on Netflix’s Bridgerton, blending classical music with modern African sounds.

Food lovers can enjoy a curated mix of African-inspired vendors offering sweet treats, coffee, drinks and condiments, alongside a live suya spice-making workshop hosted by chef and author Lope Ariyo.

The event will also include short films, photography showcases and community-focused activities, including free textile workshops led by Caramel Rock. Charity and “give back” stalls supporting organisations such as Keep it Fax and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust will also feature throughout the day.

Pop Up Africa says the event is about more than shopping.

“We want people to experience the richness, creativity and diversity of African culture in an accessible and joyful way,” organisers said. “It’s about celebrating community, supporting independent businesses and creating spaces where African creativity can thrive visibly and proudly.”

The event remains free to attend and open to all ages.
