30 AUGUST 2019. 18.30 - 22.00

As part of Friday Late, contemporary artist EVEWRIGHT will continue to explore the ideas around alternative space and challenge perceptions of

where art can be experienced and enjoyed. He will discuss the black artist gaze, storytelling, Art installation and why he uses the medium of photo etching as a means of telling and preserving Black British stories.

Listen to stories and sound extracted from his Caribbean Takeaway Takeover : Identities and Stories installation. (Currently still on display at the Migration Museum London by appointment only until the end of November 2019.)

Also on the programme:

DYING TO BETTER THEMSELVES* CONJURING PANAMA CANAL ANCESTORS *A BOOK TITLE BY OLIVE SENIOR

Dorothea Smartt’s latest poetry raises the experience of migrants from the Anglophone Caribbean, who went to build the Panama Canal, 1904-14. She will also share poems, that led to her journey of exploring her real and imagined ‘West Indian’ ancestors who settled in Panama.

EVEWRIGHT and Dorothea Smartt will take part in a Q & A session hosted by Nkechi Noel, Creative Producer who will explore the role of artistic practice, space and style in the telling and preservation of stories.

EVEWRIGHT, a Black British artist, uses a diverse range of media spanning moving-image, drawing, performance, painting and sculpture. Influenced by

his heritage his practice explores the relationship between the body, identity, Britishness, and spaces they inhabit in public and virtual realms.

Date: Friday 30 August
Venue: V&A Cromwell Road London SW7 2LR (Nearest tube South Kensington)

Check event programme on the day for all Friday Late event times. Please note, if the V&A reaches capacity access will be on a one-in,
