Ni Maxine

Friday 15th September

Ni Maxine is a Neo-Jazz Singer-Songwriter; a black woman navigating the modern world and exploring themes of home, identity, self-esteem and belonging.

She sings to bring people from all generations together and spark conversations for change, with a real sense of justice and a responsibility ‘to reflect the times’, and the experience that is unique to Black British women. Ni Maxine surrounds herself with musicians who share her passion for change.

Maxine’s childhood was steeped in the deep cultural reference points of black history. She recalls her father’s love of jazz, her mother’s love of funk and rare groove, as well as weekdays in front MTV Base and Sunday mornings in a gospel church, where she first learned to sing.

Her message is clear; “I want to inspire young people who are having (or had) a similar experience to what I had, growing up, and cultivate community. The algorithm divides us, but we are more powerful when we are united.”

Appearing on main stages at festivals with a string of sold-out shows across the north in 2022 with a tour supported by Jazz North in the works, and a debut single being supported by BBC Introducing and Jazz FM, Ni Maxine is one to watch!
