The National Black History Month Magazine returns for 2026 alongside our official Resource Pack, giving schools, workplaces and community organisations everything they need to create a meaningful Black History Month programme this October. Each year, producing the National Black History Month Magazine gives us an opportunity to reflect on the stories we tell, the people we recognise and the history we pass on to future generations.
For 2026, our theme is Honouring Our Communities.
It asks us to recognise the people whose care, courage and commitment strengthen our communities every day: those who teach, mentor, volunteer, campaign, create, serve and open doors for others.

Honouring the Late Kanya King on Our 2026 Cover
This year, we are proud to honour the late Kanya King, the founder of the MOBO Awards, on the cover of the National Black History Month Magazine.
Kanya’s determination and vision have created opportunities, opened doors and helped bring Black music and culture to audiences across Britain and around the world.
Her story reflects the spirit of Honouring Our Communities: recognising people whose leadership, creativity and commitment have made a lasting difference.
Across the magazine, readers will also discover the stories of the 54 people featured in Honouring Black Britain 2026.
Selected from hundreds of nominations, they represent different generations, professions, experiences and parts of the country. They include people who have devoted years to supporting others and strengthening the communities around them.
Their stories remind us that Black history is not only found in the past. It is being made around us every day.
A Magazine to Read, Share and Keep
The National Black History Month Magazine 2026 brings together stories about Black history, culture, achievement and contemporary Britain.
It has been created to be shared widely.
Schools can place copies in classrooms, staffrooms and libraries. Businesses and public organisations can distribute them to employees or use them during staff engagement activities.
Libraries, charities and community groups can make copies available to visitors, members and local families. Magazines can also be shared at exhibitions, workshops, conferences, performances and community events throughout October.

The Black History Month Resource Pack 2026 provides practical materials to help organisations plan engaging activities throughout October.
At its heart is the Honouring Black Britain 2026 exhibition: six A1 posters celebrating 54 people whose lives demonstrate leadership, service, achievement and commitment to their communities.
Every person featured has an individual written profile and audio story. Pupils, employees and visitors can see their portrait, read their story and hear more about their journey.
