Shoobz Fest

Saturday 14th November 2026

Music, art, history and community come together for a full-day celebration of Black British and Caribbean culture in Birmingham.

Shoobz Fest brings together legendary reggae and dancehall performers, inspiring speakers, cultural discussions and practical workshops for an unforgettable day at the Legacy Centre of Excellence.

The festival grew from ROOTS Festival and takes its inspiration from the Jamaican phrase “shub up”—to dance, move and celebrate. It pays tribute to the Caribbean house parties created by the Windrush generation, where music, joy and togetherness became expressions of community, identity and resilience.

International reggae and dancehall artist Chuck Fenda will headline the festival, bringing his conscious lyrics, commanding stage presence and some of his best-known music to Birmingham.

Reggae icon Everton Blender also joins the line-up with his distinctive roots-reggae sound and a catalogue of music that has reached audiences around the world.

Acclaimed historian, author and cultural educator Tony Browder will deliver a special workshop exploring African history, heritage and empowerment. His session will connect the experiences of the past with questions facing Black communities today and the possibilities available to future generations.

Visitors can also take part in an interactive hair-braiding workshop with Ivy Wild. The practical session will share braiding techniques and styling advice while celebrating the creativity, history and cultural importance of Black hair.

A panel discussion led by Nubia Assata will examine the history and importance of reggae. Speakers will explore the music’s Jamaican roots, international influence and continuing role in conversations about social justice, resistance, identity, unity and cultural expression.

The announced programme includes:

  • 12pm: Hair-braiding workshop with Ivy Wild
  • 3pm: Tony Browder workshop
  • 5pm: The History and Importance of Reggae panel discussion, led by Nubia Assata
  • 6pm: Live music, DJs and festival celebrations

Further artists, DJs and special guests may be announced ahead of the festival.

Whether you are a reggae lover, creative, entrepreneur, student, cultural enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable day with family and friends, Shoobz Fest offers several different experiences in one celebration.

Tickets are available for different parts of the programme, including individual workshops and the evening music event. Check the booking page carefully when selecting your ticket.
