Historical Discussion Group: Preserving History, Shaping Culture

Friday 22 October 2021

Join us for our monthly Historical Discussion Group, featuring debut children’s author, Kemi Bamgbose!

Join us for Shoe Lane Library’s monthly Historical Discussion Group as we celebrate Black History Month by looking at the Black Cultural Archives, New Beacon Books, and welcome debut children’s author, Kemi Bamgbose, to discuss her book When Mr Mandela Came to Town.

Borne of the racism and lack of positive representation faced by Black people, these organisations have been instrumental in providing a view into the rich cultural histories of African and Caribbean communities in the UK.

Share your stories of recording your histories through diaries, mementos, and more, and join us to explore the importance of archives, museums, and libraries in preserving cultural history for future generations.

An email with resources will be sent out to you after registering, and the Zoom details to join will be sent to you 24hrs before the event.
