Randall Goosby: Intersections – Black Music & Words

Sunday 14 January

Southbank Centre Resident Artist Randall Goosby leads us on a journey reflecting on the relationship between poetry, folk songs and the music of Black composers.

For this event, the violinist is joined by pianist Zhu Wang, violist Jameel Martin and cellist Eddie Pogossian for a programme taking in works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, accompanied by spoken word.

‘Music is a direct reflection of human experience, and stringed instruments are, in many instances, a reflection of the human voice,’ Goosby says.

He describes the programme as ‘an expression of Black culture through the lens of beloved artistic traditions which have historically informed and transformed each other’.

Randall Goosby performs with many top international orchestras and venues. Alongside the core classical repertoire, he is determined to highlight the music of under-represented composers.
