You’re warmly invited to an intimate evening of music, storytelling, and conversation curated by Leeds-based singer-songwriter Satnam Galsian. This special event brings together powerful voices and fresh perspectives, all rooted in heritage, identity, and creative exploration.
The night opens with a performance by Zawedde, a singer-songwriter of Ugandan heritage whose soulful sound blends personal narrative with rich cultural influences. Her music sets the tone for a thoughtful and inspiring evening.
Satnam then takes the stage to share her own musical responses to traditional folk songs, offering contemporary interpretations that honour their roots while reshaping their stories. These pieces are reflections on memory, place, and the threads that connect us across generations.
The first half closes with Sahiban — a striking feminist reimagining of the classic Punjabi love story Mirza-Sahiban. Developed during Satnam’s Opera North Resonance Residency in 2024, this evocative work features Satnam alongside John Hogg on guitar and Simon Henry on drums, creating a sound world that is bold, emotive, and unapologetically modern.
After the interval, Satnam and Zawedde return for a post-show discussion exploring themes of heritage, artistic process, and what it means to create as women of colour in today’s music industry. This candid conversation promises to be just as moving as the music itself.
To wrap up the evening, the floor will open to the audience for a Q&A session — a chance to join the dialogue, ask questions, and share reflections. Come for the music, stay for the stories, and leave inspired.
