Black Women Speak Volumes comes to The Women’s Organisation in Liverpool for an evening of powerful storytelling, discussion and cultural reflection, centring the voices and experiences of Black women across generations.
Taking place on Tuesday 26th May 2026 at 7:00pm, the event is presented by Writing on the Wall in partnership with Speaking Volumes, celebrating the publication of Challenging Britannia: Black British Women Speak Volumes, edited by Sharmilla Beezmohun and published by the George Padmore Institute. The evening brings together leading voices for a timely and thought-provoking live conversation.
Chaired by Dr Rebecca Loy, the event features Cathy Tyson, Yvvette Edwards, Maria O’Reilly and Linda Loy in conversation. Together, they explore themes of identity, activism, cultural memory and lived experience, highlighting the contributions of Black British women whose work and influence have shaped communities and public life.
The discussion reflects on both personal journeys and collective histories, offering an intergenerational perspective that connects past struggles with present realities. Through dialogue and shared testimony, the event creates space for voices that are often overlooked, emphasising the importance of representation and historical recognition.
