Join Sinfonia Viva for their dazzling New Year’s Eve Gala, a Nottingham tradition for nearly 30 years. This much-loved concert brings audiences together for an evening of celebration, sparkle, and unforgettable music.
The theme for this year is Magic & Enchantment. Before the traditional waltzes and a rousing Auld Lang Syne, the programme will explore a spellbinding world of sorcerers, mythical creatures, and fairy-tale wonder.
The evening begins with Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, immortalised in Disney’s original Fantasia (1940). Tchaikovsky’s elegant swans, Stravinsky’s fiery Firebird, and the playful spirit of Vaughan Williams’ The Wasps add to the enchantment.
The special guest is Nottingham’s own star pianist, Konya Kanneh-Mason, performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (Movements 1 & 2). This lush, romantic concerto, featured in Fantasia 2000, has become a national favourite and was voted No. 6 in this year’s Classic FM Hall of Fame.
Guiding the orchestra is conductor Nicholas Kok, who has led these festive celebrations for more than two decades. His energy and rapport with both musicians and audiences guarantee an evening full of warmth and sparkle.
Perfect for sharing with friends and family, this celebratory early-evening concert at the Royal Concert Hall is the ideal way to ring in 2026—joyful, extravagant, and steeped in tradition.
