Reminiscent of Jhumpa Lahiri, she creates characters who grapple with love, identity, and the challenges of balancing old traditions with modern times.

 

Her first book, The Best Place on Earth, won the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature, the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish Fiction, and was a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice. Her most recent book, The Art of Leaving, is a memoir in essays that won the Canadian Jewish Literary Awards and was named a Kirkus Review best book of the year.

A world traveler, Tsabari was born in Tel Aviv to a family of Yemeni descent. She teaches creative writing at University of King’s College in Halifax and University of Guelph, Ontario.
