Selma (US 2014)

The story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign that culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Selma was nominated for Best picture at the 2015 Academy Awards.

Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, will open the festival, which will be attended by The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas, and the University Diversity Champion and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
