Black History Month – African Print Fabric Rag Wreath Workshop

Thursday, 9 October 2025

This hands-on creative workshop offers a unique way to celebrate Black History Month in the heart of East London. Led by Kala Paul-Worika (By Kala X), a maker and designer passionate about heritage crafts, participants will learn how to create their very own African print fabric rag wreath. Using vibrant kente and Ankara-inspired textiles, each wreath becomes a personal work of art — colourful, cultural, and deeply expressive.

Workshops like this are not only about craft but about cultural storytelling. African prints have long been used to communicate identity, heritage and pride, and in this workshop, you’ll get the chance to explore those traditions while making something beautiful to take home.

The event takes place at the Leyton Green Gallery in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, a community art space known for championing local creativity. The gallery’s setting on Leyton High Road makes it easy to access by public transport and a welcoming space for participants of all ages.

Whether you’re an experienced crafter or a complete beginner, the workshop is designed to be fun, relaxing and social. Bring friends, family, or come along solo — you’ll leave with not only a handmade wreath but also a memorable experience that ties creativity to cultural celebration.
