Dealing with the Two Deadly Ds: Deconstructing Whiteness and Decolonising the Curriculum

 

Join us at York St John University for this hybrid event to mark Black History Month 2022. Hosted by the Centre for Religion in Society, hear Professor Anthony Reddie’s talk ‘Dealing with the Two Deadly Ds: Deconstructing Whiteness and Decolonising the Curriculum’, followed by Q+A and a wine reception.

Professor Reddie is a participative educator and liberation theologian who specialises in undertaking action-research and participative observational work with predominantly poorer Black communities in the UK. The author of 17 books, numerous journal articles and editor of Black Theology: An International Journal, Professor Reddie is renowned for his innovative and engaging teaching and facilitating style. He is one of the foremost practical Black theologians in the world.

The Centre for Religion in Society (CRiS) at York St John University provides a forum where scholars and practitioners can come together to examine the role of religion in the cultural, social, and political life of society.

Professor Anthony Reddie is the Director of the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture, Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford. Professor Reddie is also Extraordinary Professor, Theological Ethics at the University of South Africa, Editor of Black Theology: An International Journal, and recipient of the Lanfranc Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education and Scholarship from the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Lambeth Awards, 2020.

The event will be chaired by Professor Esther McIntosh, Professor of Feminist Theology and Ethics, Director of the Centre for Religion in Society at York St John University.
