Abdullah Ibrahim at Wales Millennium Centre

South Africa’s most distinguished master pianist, ABDULLAH IBRAHIM, performs an intimate and exquisite solo show on Saturday 22th October.

Taking us on an unforgettable spiritual journey through gospel and jive, American jazz and classical – the sacred and secular is to be anticipated.

Born in Cape Town, Nelson Mandela famously dubbed him ‘South Africa’s Mozart. An anti-apartheid activist, Ibrahim’s music has long tracked the turbulence of his homeland’s history, matching its past struggles and current optimism through music of great hope and deeply reflective soulfulness.

Ibrahim is considered the leading figure in the subgenre of Cape jazz. Within jazz, his music particularly reflects the influence of Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington and his jazz piece ‘Mannenberg’, became a notable anti-apartheid anthem.
