White Riot – The Rock Against Racism Documentary

Thursday 9 December 2021

Come and see Rubika Shah’s brilliant documentary on the proud history of Rock Against Racism.

The late and greatly missed socialist writer David Widgery described Rock Against Racism as “a way of having a revolution without stopping the party”. Concerned by the growth of the National Front, and the reactionary politics of Enock Powell, a group of young Londoners wrote to the New Musical Express in 1976 urging its readers to join a “rank and file movement against the racist poison in rock music”. That’s exactly what happened: bands toured the country performing Rock Against Racism gigs, and radical politics found a pwerful anti-racist soundtrack.
