2026 marks a significant milestone in Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita’s career — thirty years making music, innovating tradition and bridging continents through sound. To celebrate, he brings a special performance to Liverpool, joined by internationally acclaimed guest artists Natacha Atlas and Samy Bishai, in a night of vibrant cultural fusion.
Seckou Keita’s latest work springs from his album Homeland, released in October 2024, which explores identity, migration and the meaning of home. He draws from his roots in Senegal, his adopted life in the UK, and his constant search for creative and musical belonging. Known for his virtuosity on the 22-string kora and his innovative blending of Malian and Senegalese tradition with afro-pop, urban beats and spoken-word poetry, Seckou’s performances are as joyful as they are profound.
On this special tour show, Seckou returns to the stage standing, in homage to his uncle and mentor Solo Cissokho, reflecting a commitment to musical lineage and personal evolution. Backed by a dynamic band, he takes audiences on a journey through his repertoire: ancient stringed textures, pulsating rhythms, soulful vocals and modern production all meeting in one electrifying live experience.
Joining him are Natacha Atlas, whose pioneering vocal work fuses Arabic, North African and electronic styles, and Samy Bishai, a trailblazing composer and multi-instrumentalist whose genre-crossing work defies easy categorisation. Together this line-up promises an evening of cross-cultural celebration that honours African sound worlds while looking boldly forward.
Whether you are already a follower of world-music innovators, or discovering African string traditions for the first time, this event offers a chance to witness a master of his craft perform with passion, precision and heart. Expect an immersive musical experience designed to move, engage and open new ears.
