Leron Thomas (Pan Amsterdam) is an American jazz trumpeter, composer and vocalist noted for his musical style as a “masterful genre bender”.
Iggy Pop credits Ben Ratliff, the jazz critic at The New York Times, with introducing him to the work of Leron Thomas, which soon led to the Houston native joining the godfather of punk’s band.
This year Iggy Pop released his eighteenth studio album ‘Free’ which he cites as “an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice.”, one of those artists is Leron Thomas.
Pan Amsterdam is the cross-genre brainchild of Leron Thomas, which has received strong critical acclaim over his short time under this alias, and has been met with the nods of taste makers everywhere. Lauren Laverne of BBC 6 Music gave Elijah’ her ‘headphones moment’ and one of her favourite tracks of the year.
This year Pan Amsterdam will see the release of his new album, featuring a whole host of exciting collaborations, with Iggy Pop (in turn) appearing on one of the tracks.
