Francesca Chiejina Soprano

We are delighted to welcome Nigerian-American soprano Francesca Chiejina a recent graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artists’ Programme at the Royal Opera House, and acclaimed pianist and curator Jocelyn Freeman as they continue Schubert’s great song cycles with his second, Winterreise – a cycle of 24 songs for voice and piano based on the poems by Wilhelm Müller.

Composed towards the end of Schubert’s short life Winterreise (Winter Journey) portrays a solitary wanderer embarking on a journey through a winter landscape that leads him to question his identity, the conditions of his existence and the meaning of life.
