Our Carnival Our Story (2/2) – Carnival Saturday

Saturday 13 December 2025

The second day of Our Carnival Our Story turns the spotlight onto the ideas, politics and practices that sit behind Carnival. Carnival Saturday combines daytime workshops and a “Let’s Talk Carnival” symposium with a nighttime party of Carnival DJs and samba performances.

From 10.00am to 4.00pm, attendees can join discussions and sessions that look at Carnival’s history, the work of Mas bands and artists, and the role of Carnival in Hackney’s cultural life. It’s a chance to hear directly from practitioners and organisers who have helped shape the borough’s Carnival scene.

In the evening, the focus shifts to music and performance, with DJs and samba artists taking over Chats Palace for a free celebration of Carnival sound and energy. As with day one, the event is designed to be open and welcoming, while also recognising the depth of expertise within Hackney’s Carnival community.
