Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Talk by Chi Onwurah MP

Friday 29th April 2016

Chi Onwurah MP will be speaking at LJMU on Friday 29th April 2016 on her personal experiences in the engineering sector and her own perspectives on women and leadership, promotion and unconscious bias. Drawing on her experiences in life and in government, Chi will explore what more proactive and positive action measures could be employed by organisations, women, men, and people from all communities to facilitate a real and tangible change that would bring about desired progression.

Chi has been passionate about inclusivity throughout her career and will be talking about her work in parliament, women and STEM subjects, her personal experiences in the engineering sector.

This will be the third lecture in the series. The first lecture, which attracted an audience of over 100 from across the region, was given by Andrew Miller MP; the second talk was by Professor Julia Buckingham, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Brunel, one of the few female Vice-Chancellors in the UK, who spoke on “Targeting the Glass Ceiling” and drew an audience of over 200 people.

It will be great if you can join us on Friday 29th April for what we expect to be a thought-provoking morning.

Guest speaker: Chi Onwurah MP – Shadow Minister for Culture & the Digital Economy.

Event host:  Professor Robin Leatherbarrow, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Scholarship, Research and Knowledge Transfer) Liverpool John Moores University.

A Question and Answer session will follow Chi’s talk to give the audience opportunity to get involved in the debate.

The event is free but places are limited – Please register your attendance at:
