‘Italy and the Invisible Blackness’ with filmmaker Fred Kuwornu

To kick off the PoLIS Decolonising the Curriculum series, we are delighted to welcome Film Director and independent scholar, Fred Kuwornu.

 

In his talk, Fred Kuwornu will address issues regarding blackness in Italy, stretching from visual representations of Blackness during Renaissance to recent developments of BLM .

Fred Kudjo Kuwornu is a filmmaker activist-producer-educator, born and raised in Italy and based in Brooklyn. His mother is an Italian Jew, and his father is a Ghanaian surgeon who has lived in Italy since the early ’60s. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Mass Media from the University of Bologna, he currently teaches courses on production and digital filmmaking on Black Diaspora in Contemporary Italy and Europe. His filmmaking explores themes such as multiculturalism, interracial relations and Black diasporic identity, and he is an advocate for using film to advance social change.
