Reading Beyond: Empire’s Endgame

Thu, 22 April 2021 18:30 – 20:00 BST

This informal reading group is part of our Beyond Black History Month programme.

Join us for critical conversations where we collectively discuss texts by black authors that speak to socio-political urgencies, historical, and ecological themes related to black life.

For this gathering on Stephen Lawrence Day, we will read extracts from Empire’s Endgame. This book traces the ways in which the legacies of empire have been reshaped by global capitalism, the digital environment, and the instability of the nation-state. Together we will contemplate the fall of colonial monuments, and the dismantlement of systemic oppression against black and brown bodies, especially the over-criminalisation of Black and Asian youth.

Please book to receive the excerpts and read the texts before attending the event. This event will be held online via Zoom. If you have any accessibility requirements for the event, please contact jade@nae.org.uk.
