Spoken-word poetry, music and live art come together for a Black History Month evening exploring the power of creativity to inspire change.
Poetic Temple joins forces with The Africa Centre to present Arts For Change, a night dedicated to creative expression, community and the ability of the arts to challenge ideas and encourage action.
The event brings together spoken-word performers, musicians, live artists and audiences for an evening of poetry, visual creativity and shared experience.
Poetic Temple is powered by P.O.E.T.S—People of ExtraTerrestrial Substance—a creative movement founded to recognise and celebrate the distinctive gifts people bring to poetry, performance and the arts.
Its events create space for established and emerging voices while encouraging audiences to experience the power of carefully chosen words, music and art in an open and welcoming environment.
The evening forms part of Poetic Temple’s continuing collaboration with The Africa Centre and marks Black History Month through performances focused on creativity and the power of art to bring about change.
The event will also help raise awareness and funds for The Africa Centre, supporting its work as a cultural home for African and diasporic communities.
For more than 60 years, The Africa Centre has worked to educate, connect and advocate for Africa and its global diaspora. Its Southwark home has hosted exhibitions, performances, conversations and community events celebrating African heritage and contemporary culture.
Whether you are a poet, artist, musician, regular visitor or attending a spoken-word event for the first time, Arts For Change offers an opportunity to discover creative voices, meet people and support an important cultural institution.
