Historical English building gives back to Windrush and the Black Heroes Foundation

The Black Heroes Foundation proudly invites you to a powerful evening celebrating the unforgettable Flip Fraser!

Join us on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, at the iconic Clapham Grand for a night filled with music, readings, and special guest appearances, and hosted by Professor William “Lez” Henry.

Flip Fraser’s story is one of courage, creativity, and unwavering dedication to his community. As a Jamaican immigrant who arrived in the UK as part of the Windrush generation, Fraser navigated a new life while cherishing his cultural roots. His commitment to empowering others led him to be the first Editor of The Voice, a groundbreaking newspaper that became a vital platform for the Black community in Britain.

Fraser’s passion for celebrating Black achievement didn’t end there. He created the renowned theatrical production “Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame,” a captivating one-night show that brings 5,000 years of Black history to life. Through education, entertainment, and empowerment, Fraser’s work continues to inspire generations.

The Clapham Grand is a venue dedicated to entertaining and educating communities for over 124 years.  The Clapham Grand Manager, Ally Wolf (He/Him) – General Manager, Producer & Programmer The Clapham Grand and Co-Founder & Booker Mighty Hoopla Festival states:

“I am honoured to welcome back Joyce Fraser & the Black Heroes Foundation to The Clapham Grand. As a venue that was built 124 years ago to provide a home for the communities of Battersea to be entertained and educated, it fills us with pride that we are still able to do so but hosting these wonderful events both serving and shining a light on the Windrush Generation who have given us so much!”

This fundraiser is a tribute to Flip Fraser’s life and a commitment to ensuring his legacy thrives.

Anni Domingo, Actress, Director and Writer, stated;

“The Story of Flip Fraser has to be told, for it is an important part of Black Theatre History.”

Proceeds from the event on Wednesday, 19th June 2024 will directly support the Black Heroes Foundation’s mission to:

  • Educate: Spreading awareness of Black history and achievements
  • Entertain: Creating engaging performances that celebrate Black culture
  • Empower: Inspiring individuals and communities through the power of storytelling
