Windrush Family Day – Southwark Celebrates: Here To Stay

An inspiring free family day celebrating Sam King & Black heritage - before and after Empire Windrush. Bring a picnic, tell your friends!

Come and celebrate a free family heritage day in the park as Southwark celebrates Windrush’s 75th anniversary – on the green at Camberwell Green.

 

Southwark has a rich history of Caribbean heritage. This event will pay tribute to pioneers like SAM KING, the first Black Mayor of Southwark, and DR. HAROLD MOODY, an incredible community builder – long before Empire Windrush. This is also a chance to celebrate the NHS on its 75th anniversary.

With music by DJ Doogie, Play it on Pan, steel pan music, African drumming, inspirational guest speakers, Quadrille dancers, face painting, heritage dancers, dominoes, and a family picnic atmosphere.

Plus, stalls selling books, delicious Caribbean food, health and beauty products.

FANCY DRESS Dress up in Windrush style, NHS style, or wear your national dress or colours. Bring your flag or your ‘kerchief to wave! Pack a picnic, your picnic rug, and wear your ‘creps’ to move in.
