A special Black History Month screening of Alain Gomis’ new film DAO, followed by a live question-and-answer session with lead actress D’Johé Kouadio.
Moving between a wedding celebration in France and a memorial ceremony in Guinea-Bissau, DAO is a powerful story about family, heritage, memory and the traditions that connect generations.
At the heart of the film are Manjak culture and language. Through two important family gatherings, the story explores joy and grief, belonging and identity, and the ways cultural knowledge is shared and preserved.
The celebrations unfold across different countries but are connected through bodies, movement, music and time, bringing together family members and traditions from across generations.
Following the screening, lead actress D’Johé Kouadio will join the audience for a live Q&A, offering an opportunity to hear more about the film, its characters and the cultural experiences at the centre of its story.
Guests are warmly encouraged to wear traditional pano di pinti or their finest African or traditional clothing, helping to make the event a colourful celebration of African culture and heritage.
The screening begins promptly at 1.30pm and will be presented without adverts or trailers.
