Attend the launch of Stories of Sudan, an exhibition bringing together historical photographs and contemporary children’s artwork to connect experiences across approximately fifty years.
Photographs taken in Sudan during the 1970s by Jill Orpen are displayed alongside work created by children participating in Green Kordofan’s art programme in Yida refugee camp, South Sudan.
Together, the images explore everyday life, creativity and memory, inviting visitors to learn about people and places through those who know them.
Orpen donated the photographic collection to Green Kordofan for exhibition and fundraising. Sales will support art and music classes, sports activities and educational opportunities for children displaced by war.
The exhibition runs from 19 to 25 October 2026 during library opening hours. The booking link above is specifically for the launch on 19 October.
School visits and associated activities are also available during the exhibition week.
