Professor Hakim Adi – African and Caribbean people in Britain: The Launch

Thursday 6th October

Join us for this event, where Professor Adi will share his latest research, answer questions and sign copies of his newly released work.

As part of De Montfort University’s Black History Month programme:

Professor Hakim Adi, is a Professor of the History of Africa and the African Diaspora at the University of Chichester. He was also the first historian of African heritage to become a professor of history in Britain.

During this special event, Professor Adi will launch his new book African and Caribbean People in Britain, which demonstrates that from the moment humans first stood on this rainy isle, there have been African and Caribbean men and women at Britain’s heart.

Charting a course through British history with an unobscured view of the actions of African and Caribbean people, he reveals how much our greatest collective achievements – universal suffrage, our victory over fascism, the forging of the NHS – are owed to these men and women and how, in understanding our history in these terms, we are more able to fully understand our present moment.

Join us for this exciting book launch, where Professor Adi will share his latest research, answer questions and sign copies of his newly released work.

Places can be booked up to one hour before the event starts and registrants will receive a confirmation up to 24 hours before the event.

Please contact the DMU Events Office on eventsoffice@dmu.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you have any special event requirements.
