Belly Full: Caribbean Food in the UK

Caribbean Food in the UK, the first in a series of books about Afro-Caribbean food across the world. From the Caribbean islands; the westerly island of Jamaica to the eastern shores of Trinidad and Tobago to Miami, New York, Toronto and London, Rice n Peas, Roti, Curry Goat and Jerk Chicken are rising in popularity.

Neighbourhoods across these cities all have popular outlets, and have done for decades – but who are the people behind these places? Belly Full: Caribbean Food in the UK takes you on a journey across the UK, with

stories that begin as far back as the 1950s. Whether it’s in London, Liverpool or Leeds, you quickly realise these places are so much more than quick pits tops for food. These establishments mean so much to their local communities, not to mention that the families and people behind them are local legends in their own right.

As these places and people were so often overlooked in the telling of their areas’ histories, Belly Full endeavours to make sure these people, places and stories are not forgotten in history. This 1st edition features photo profiles of over 60 of such locations, from cafes, bakeries, butchers, takeaways to diners and the people behind them, and of course their stories.
