An innocent caress. Touch. In that place. So deep in myself, I became displaced. A journey through my body. Who lives there? Cells, memories, stories. When an experience becomes a memory and then a cry becomes a song.
The river calls to me, calls me to this place. To wash, to give, to surrender. The river flow washed away what had become of me and then I stomped the violence. I opened my hip, and my torso became loose, unhinged. My voice became free, I broke the silence and my voice echoed. My cry became a song, my stomp the rhythm; I became me… As I am Naturally.
As I Am Naturally is a journey of self-discovery and reclamation, embodying and intertwining themes of identity, landscape, touch and memory. This moving new production from performance artist Tania Camara (Oreo) features compelling spoken work, dance and live music using the traditional music and dance style Batuku. Transporting audiences from the urban landscape of Salford to the African island of Cape Verde.
