Crisis Choirs

Sun 24 June 2018 15:00 – 16:30

Crisis Choirs, refugee choir based at Rainbow Haven in Gorton, will be performing live at a special concert in celebration of Refugee Week. Listen to songs from around the world in languages including French, English, Swahili, Tigrinya, Farsi, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Albanian.
Crisis Choirs will be supporting renowned Ugandan musician Seby Ntege and his band as part of their UK tour!
Seby is respected as one of the most accomplished resident East African musicians in the UK and an ambassador of traditional Ugandan music. Seby’s thirst for the contemporary has led to a series of collaborations with a number of celebrated artists from different musical backgrounds including Kiki Dee, Mr.Will Music and Sona Jobarteh amongst others. Seby describes his sound as a musical marriage between Uganda, the UK and West Africa: ‘Ugandan afro-soul dance music’.
A charismatic presence and bandleader on stage, Seby’s heartfelt vocals strike up conversation with the akogo thumb piano (his childhood instrument) whilst the 21 string kora provides gravitas. A band with a special camaraderie, Mr Will (guitar), Rob Stevens (bass) and Lucas Keen (drums) complete the lineup for the debut album and forthcoming performance tour.
